FrontRunners: Rest Assured

Skip the transatlantic crossing and pursue perfect sleep closer to home: Savoir Beds (www.savoirbeds.com), the London maker of tailor-made mattresses, has opened stores in New York’s SoHo neighborhood and Miami, and plans to open a third U.S. location, in Los Angeles, later this year. (Savoir beds have had a loyal following since 1905, when Richard D’Oyly Carte, founder of London’s Savoy hotel, hired an upholsterer to create mattresses for his guests.) Savoir constructs the mattresses from sheep’s wool, long horsetail hair, cotton, and other materials that wick moisture and help regulate body temperature. The mattresses come in four configurations priced from $8,000 to $55,000.
