Lacroix Seating

  • Jorge Arango

The fashion-conscious Italian mosaic firm Sicis has teamed up with famed French couturier Christian Lacroix to produce a new line of furniture that highlights the designer’s signature affinity for jewel-like colors and extravagant materials and forms. Inspired by the mosaics of the sixth-century proto-feminist Empress Theodora (wife of Emperor Justinian I) that adorn the Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna, where Sicis is based, Lacroix’s collection features soft, womanly shapes, Byzantine exoticism, and rich embellishment. Upholstered in silk velvets, brocades, and other luxurious textiles, the shapes have a Turkish flair, which is especially evident in the companion chair and lounge Jeanne and Belisaire. Some are ornamented with massive tassels, including the Julien Largentier sofa and Maximien chairs, and several have nail-head trim. There are also table, floor, and pendant lamps boasting long, ornate fringes. Prices range between $8,900 and $21,000. (877.839.8900, www.sicis.it)
