Shagreen Boxes Pandora Would Envy

The Belgian-born, Miami-based designer Serge de Troyer, known for high-end furnishings with organic shapes that are made of luxurious materials like bone, leathers, and bronze, has introduced a line of jewelry and watch boxes that are completely handmade in France using the finest shagreen. The craftsmanship is unrivaled and the designs are extremely difficult to execute—particularly one box that boasts a fish-scale design iterated in shagreen in tones of charcoal gray, lighter gray, ivory, and white. Some boxes create optical illusions, others also feature mother-of-pearl inlay. One masculine-style watch case has an Art Deco horizontal cylinder shape on a double plinth; the outer case is stained gunmetal gray and the inside is trimmed with silk velvet. It can accommodate five watches on rounded mounts. Prices range from about $1,800 to $3,100. (786.364.3588, www.sergedetroyer.com)
