New Shopping Website Launches With Every Business Owned or Led by Women
On Tuesday June 24, 2014, Pink51 (www.Pink51.com) launched, becoming the first online shopping destination to aggregate Pink businesses that are women-owned or women-led. The site recognizes that today more than 50% of the United States population is female and highlights the fact that 85% of all consumer spending ($7 trillion annually) in the United States is influenced by women. Pink51 defines Pink businesses as one that is either 50% or more woman-owned, led by a female CEO or two female senior level executives, or maintains 20% or more female board membership. The shopping website also commits 10% of profits to named charities highlighted on the website that are dedicated to the economic empowerment of women and girls in America and around the world. Pink51 hopes to inspire people to choose to shop Pink businesses, harnessing a new economy powered by women.

Similar to other movements that have asked consumers to make choices on where and how to shop like “Shop Organic” and “Go Green”, Pink51 encourages all to “Shop Pink”. Pink51 offers hundreds of online Pink retailers to shop from across all categories as well as the Pink Pages directory. Pink Pages allows any Pink business, including services and brick and mortar companies, as well as all of its online retailers, to create a free listing and promote their business to anyone that comes to the site. Pink51’s shopping categories include Women, Men, Home & Living, Children & Baby, Entertainment, Gifts, and more. Pink51’s online retailers include DKNY, Gaiam, La Perla, Lord & Taylor, Melissa & Doug, Michael Stars, Nagicia, Nasty Gal, Kellie Martin's Romp!, The Land of Nod, the knot and Nordstrom. The website is launching with over 150 online retailers and hopes that hundreds more will sign-up and become a part of the movement.
National Association of Women Business Owners, California, Springboard Enterprises and Bettyvision, all leaders in business empowerment for women, have partnered with Pink51. Each partner, their organization, network, and mission is shared on Pink51’s website so visitors can learn more and find out how to get involved. Equally, partners will be sharing Pink51 with their networks.

Once a user account is created on Pink51, the shopper can vote for one or more of the listed charities to support with their purchases. Pink51 has partnered with four charities; Girls Inc., Invisible Children, National Partnership for Women & Families, and Women’s Earth Alliance. Each charity has a devoted page of information that shares their mission and impact with shoppers.
