Todd Reed Opening Second Studio on Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice, California
Todd Reed, a fine jewelry designer and industry icon known for harnessing the raw elegance of naturally colored diamonds, will open a retail experience at 1511 Abbott Kinney in the Venice neighborhood of Los Angeles. Scheduled to open in September 2014, the retail store and production facility was designed by Tres Birds, a celebrated architecture firm based in Denver, Colorado who conceptualized the first Todd Reed store in Boulder in 2010.
“The design and construction of our flagship location in Los Angeles has been an enormous – yet thrilling - labor of love for me personally,” explains Todd Reed, Founder & CEO of Todd Reed Jewelry. “We wanted an environment that reflected our artisan roots but with a nod to this incredible Venice lifestyle that combines fashion and design with authentic beach living. I believe we found the perfect balance between these elements, and can’t wait to open our doors this Fall.”
The 6,000 square foot space will include a retail environment on the first floor along with a jewelry design and production facility to mirror the company’s existing operation in Boulder. The second floor will include a dedicated bridal salon, administrative offices and an outdoor atrium with seating. The top floor has been designed as living quarters for the artist in residence, and will include a private elevator and separate staircase. This allows for VIP clients to visit the store with absolute discretion.
The steel reinforced structure is softened by the use of 1,000 plants, designed to create a vegetative screen that extends from the exterior of the store to the interior space, reaching heights of 20 feet. This not only brings dramatic color, a hint of fragrance and bursts of oxygen to the space, but it naturally dampens the sounds from the bustling street outside. In addition, all of the spaces throughout the store were designed to maximize the natural light, so all of the individual jewelry environments are self-illuminated.
