Van Cleef & Arpels Launch New High Jewelry Collection Pierres de Caractère Variations
Seven years ago, the first Pierres de Caractère Collection was created to celebrate Van Cleef & Arpels’ centenary. Today, the Maison is once again paying homage to the beauty of gems with Pierres de Caractère – Variations. The new collection gives pride of place to dazzling colour combinations and exceptional stones endowed with a spiritual quality.
A genuine invitation to travel, this High Jewellery Collection is marked by an elegant virtuosity that combines excellence with audacity. There are highly contrasted rings that glitter on a summer evening, aquatic jewels adorned with every shade of blue, sets that contain all the hues of the setting sun, and flamboyant necklaces worthy of an oriental princess:
For over a century, exceptional stones have been at the heart of Van Cleef & Arpels’ creations. Born out of the marriage of Estelle Arpels – the daughter of a precious stone merchant – and Alfred Van Cleef, the son of a lapidary, the Maison selects its materials according to the very highest standards. From white diamonds to colored gems, from mother-of-pearl to hard stones, it seeks excellence, but also character – that spiritual quality which marks a gem out from its peers. “Every stone has a soul of its own,” as Claude Arpels used to say. Estelle Arpels’ nephew, he travelled the world in search of these wonders, admiring their “living flame”. Transcending strictly objective criteria such as purity, color, cut or weight, they represent an encounter, a secret alchemy that awakens the senses. Pierres de Caractère™ – carefully selected by the Maison’s gemologists – make the heart beat faster and instill a unique emotion.
Today, the Maison gives a dazzling new expression to this tradition by incorporating sets of extremely rare stones into its new collection. The flamboyant rubies from Mozambique – weighing more than 40 carats – on the Oriental Princess necklace are matched by the Ancolie Précieuse ring’s old cut D IF type 2A diamond (9.03 carats), a stone for genuine connoisseurs. The two Fancy Vivid Orangy Yellow diamonds weighing 9,04 carats on the Precious Light earrings echo the sumptuous 27.81-carat Colombian emerald that adorns the Pongal ring. Other creations feature magnificent fine and hard stones, such as the pink spinel that lends its sweet hue to the Summer Cocktail ring, or the carefully sculpted sea-blue turquoise on the Sea Side ring.
