Men of the Cloth: Custom Comfort

William Kissel

Loro Piana now offers the world’s first 100 percent cashmere carpeting. Called One Step to Heaven and priced at approximately $178 per square foot, it is part of the new Loro Piana Interiors collection. The carpet—produced from cashmere fleece that comes from the soft underbelly of the Hyrcus goat—is available in three standard earth tones, though it can be customized to match any color scheme.

To showcase the Interiors collection, which comprises more than 30 luxury fabrics—including vicuña, silk, and angora, as well as cashmere—Loro Piana has opened a showroom at New York’s D&D Building. The space is open to designers and private clients.

Loro Piana also offers At Sea and in the Air, a bespoke service for outfitting yachts and jets. NetJets was among the first At Sea and in the Air clients. In addition to purchasing custom trench coats for its pilots and cashmere throws for its passengers, the fractional-jet giant also ordered custom cashmere upholstery fabrics and carpeting for a number of its planes. Loro Piana is producing a special fire-retardant backing for the carpet, to conform with FAA regulations. Many of the company’s new interior fabrics can be made to meet the FAA’s rigid standards.

The company is also working with a number of private yacht owners, filling orders for such on-board amenities as vicuña or cashmere slippers, robes, pillows, and blankets, and cotton beach towels and travel bags.
