FrontRunners: Counter Strikes

Fans of the unorthodox will delight in the Hautlence HL2.0 (www.hautlence.com).The watch tells time with a retrograde half-moon minute counter and an advancing linear hour display that moves like a tank tread. The tread, or chain drive, not only jumps on the hour, but also triggers the watch’s escapement assembly to rotate 60 degrees when the hour changes—a function similar to that of a tourbillon. You can view the show through the watch’s dual-block milled sapphire crystal housing. The rose gold version of the Hautlence HL2.0is $275,000; thewhite gold one is $295,000.
