The St. Regis Bangkok
"Welcome to Italy," executive chef Leonardo Concezzi says as he opens the door to a refrigerated cheese room at the St. Regis Bangkok’s Jojo restaurant. Blocks and bags of pecorino dei Templari, formaggio di fossa, and casciotta d’Urbino line the shelves, and Concezzi has a story to tell about each selection—of which there are 31 Italian-government-guaranteed D.O.P. varieties at the restaurant.
Jojo is located on the ground floor of the new St. Regis, where, across the lobby, an outpost of London’s popular Japanese restaurant Zuma is debuting this fall. As reflected by its dining venues, the St. Regis does not scream, "You’re in Bangkok!" And yet the property, which opened in April, provides an unequivocal sense of place.
Situated on floors 16 through 24 of a 47-story tower, the St. Regis’ 227 guest rooms and suites have the contemporary look of anywhere, with lovely five-star furnishings and abstract artwork on the walls. But floor-to-ceiling windows in the accommodations offer a compelling panorama of your surroundings: the skyscrapers of Bangkok’s central business district and the golf course at the 110-year-old Royal Bangkok Sports Club. Sports and leisure offerings within the hotel include a state-of-the-art gym, an outdoor pool, and a spa by British brand Elemis. The St. Regis Bangkok, +22.214.171.12477, www.stregis.com
