Etro

Bright color and bold patterns, often considered vulgar in the world of luxury, are rendered both beautiful and wearable in the hands of Kean Etro, the Italian designer who single-handedly started a new peacock generation in menswear when he turned his father’s textile studio into a sportswear label in 1986. Always theatrical as ensembles on the runway, taken on their own the individual pieces in a typical Etro collection—softly fabricated double-faced blazers, trim-cut trousers, military-inspired jackets, and fine-gauge knitwear—are actually classically inspired and constructed with a tailor’s eye for quality and detail.

Inside Information
Paper-effect finishes on jackets and century-old Japanese tie-dye processes or digital photos of knitwear printed on woven shirts are just a few of the proprietary design techniques used to create Etro clothing, many pieces of which have subsequently become collector’s items.
