Aman-i-Khás

Located outside Ranthambhore in the Indian state of Rajasthan, Aman-i-Khás is the subcontinent’s closest approximation to an upscale African safari lodge. The resort consists of 10 fantastically furnished, Mogul-style tent accommodations, as well as tents that house a spa, lounging and reception areas, and a library filled with books about India’s flora and fauna. Accommodations Ten air-conditioned tents with 18-foot-high canvas ceilings and “rooms” separated by cotton drapes. Recreation The focus is on safaris in four-wheel drives, but the resort also offers excursions to Ranthambhore Fort, camel rides, nature walks, and visits to local villages. Dining Served at locations throughout the resort’s grounds, meals consist of Indian and Western dishes made with produce grown in the on-site organic garden. Worthy Diversion Follow your day on safari with an Aman Raj treatment at the Spa Tent, where couples can enjoy the indigenous ritual on twin massage tables. Rates Tents are $750 plus a compulsory board charge of $75 per person, per day. The camp is open from October through April.
