The Lodge at Blanket Bay

    Salmon fishing and sailing on Lake Wakatipu is possible just steps from the main lodge at Blanket Bay, an intimate alpine resort set on 65,000 acres on New Zealand’s South Island. Guests at Blanket Bay stay in the main lodge’s rooms and suites (eight total), or in the property’s two New Zealand Colonial–style chalets, each of which includes a pair of 700-square-foot suites with lakefront decks and private courtyards. Accommodations Five rooms and three 700-square-foot suites in the main lodge, plus two stand-alone chalets with two suites apiece, lake decks, and private courtyards. Recreation The Lake Wakatipu region is a haven for hiking, fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, heli-skiing, bungee jumping, and river rafting. Dining Pacific Rim cuisine served in one of two Dining rooms, in a wine cave, or on a fireside terrace. Worthy Diversion Take a jet boat up the Dart River into Mount Aspiring National Park before paddling back downstream in Fun Yaks (inflatable canoes). Rates From $900 to $1,950.
