The Wakaya Club & Spa

Guests of the Wakaya Club—the only resort on the 2,200-acre private isle in the Koro Sea—spend their days swimming and kayaking near the shoreline, snorkeling and scuba diving along the surrounding barrier reef, fly-casting for coral trout from deserted beaches, and pursuing trophy fish aboard the island’s Flying Wakayan catamaran. Back on land, they come and go from 10 traditional bungalows, called bures, set steps from the ocean’s edge. Accommodations Vale O (House in the Clouds), a 12,000-square-foot villa with a cliff-side swimming pool and Jacuzzi, is the most secluded of Wakaya’s lodgings, but each of the eight ocean- and garden-view bures affords ample privacy. The Governor’s Bure (2,400 square feet) and the Ambassador’s Bure (4,500 square feet with a private spa) are the largest. Recreation Golfing on a nine-hole course with views of the Pacific, tennis, bird-watching, sea kayaking, world-class diving, snorkeling, and a variety of fishing excursions, including deep-sea fishing. Dining The lagoon-facing Palm Grove Restaurant serves local seafood, such as fresh mangrove crab, as well as mango and other produce harvested from the island’s organic gardens. Guests may also have meals served in their Accommodations. Worthy Diversion Scuba dive at sites such as Neptune’s Garden, a large expanse of coral fans and tube sponges, and Hell’s Gate, a deep trench traversed by dogtooth tuna and leopard sharks, are just minutes away from the resort. Rates Bures from $1,900 to $4,900; Vale O, $7,600. Full-island rental for a week begins at about $260,000.
