The Toys of Summer 2012: Yosemite Paddle Boards

  • Erika Heet

Because fashion designer James Perse, a Los Angeles native, enjoys surfing off the beaches of Malibu, it seemed only appropriate that, when he expanded his business to include sports accessories four years ago, he included surfboards in his Limited Edition collection. Given the growing popularity of stand-up paddleboarding, an offshoot of surfing, it now seems equally fitting that Perse has added the Yosemite Paddle Boards to his sporting-goods lineup.

The 11-foot-3-inch-long boards—priced at $2,950 and composed of polyurethane foam covered with a smooth matte finish of black, red and black, white and black, or yellow and black—are shaped and glassed in Southern California. The collection also includes a lighter 10.5-foot-long Performance board that offers greater maneuverability than the larger board. The shorter board is available only in white and is priced at $3,330. Stylish and responsive alternatives to cumbersome, boatlike paddleboards, the Yosemite and Performance boards are as well suited to hanging on a living-room wall as they are to catching waves.
