The Best of the Best 2003: Resorts - Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa

Maryann Hammers

Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa makes the most of its location, a site that author James Michener called “the most beautiful lagoon in the world.” The glass-floored lobby offers a unique view of the exotic fish-filled water below, and the 1,500-square-foot bungalows—each furnished with Indonesian mahogany canopy beds, French silver bath fixtures, and Italian marble tubs—have been built out over the water. Breakfast is delivered by outrigger canoe. The resort is located on Motu Toopua, an islet southwest of the main island of Bora Bora.

The lagoon provides ample opportunity for swimming, kayaking, diving, snorkeling, and piloting personal watercraft. If the location puts you in the mood for more exotic diversions, you can pet sharks, feed stingrays, or take a five-minute water taxi to the private islet of Motu Tapu for a catered picnic or a romantic dinner under the stars.
