The Best of the Best 2003: Sailboats - Nautor's Swan

In response to a request from a pair of its most loyal clients, Nautor’s Swan, a Finnish company that has traditionally manufactured production sailboats as large as 80 feet long, designed and built the 112-foot Song of the Sea.

The clients, Gaymond and Cindy Schultz, formerly the owners of a Nautor’s Swan 57, hired designers Dick Young and Jean Guy Vergas to design the interior, and they contributed their own talents to the project as well. Cindy chose the elegant, matching marble panels that line all of the guest bathrooms, while Gaymond, a woodworking enthusiast, reviewed and approved all of the cabinetry plans.

Although the Schultzes have been using the boat only for leisurely cruising since it was delivered last summer, its carbon fiber mast and boom, as well as hydraulics and captive winches to handle the sails, suggest that racing is in Song of the Sea’s future.
