The Best of the Best 2003: Undiscovered Bests - Yapluka Yacht

Yapluka Yachts, which has been designing and building high-quality catamarans for European owners for the last four years, is currently building two 70-footers—including one for the company’s first American client—and a 95-foot vessel. Business has been so brisk lately that the French boat builder has outgrown its La Rochelle headquarters and is relocating to a new facility in Caen, Normandy.

While the newer, larger yachts are still in the works, the star of Yapluka’s portfolio remains Sete Mares, a 60-foot sailing catamaran. Recently, the $1.6 million Sete Mares, which is also equipped with a pair of diesel engines, completed a transatlantic journey in which it averaged from 14 to 18 mph.

Sete Mares’ appearance is as impressive as its performance. Yapluka painted the boat’s hulls navy blue to match the color of the owner’s Aston Martin. The sunny salon spans the wing deck and extends to the covered, teak-decked cockpit. The salon is finished with rich mahogany paneling, and the galley is lined with maple.
