Banyan Tree Samui

  • Poppy Friedman

Banyan Tree Samui, a collection of 78 pitched-roof villas on the southeastern shore of Koh Samui island, opened in July as the Singapore-based brand’s third hotel in Thailand. Arranged in a horseshoe shape around Lamai Bay in the Gulf of Thailand, the property revolves around water. In addition to the bay and a beachfront swimming pool, the resort’s liquid assets include the 10-room spa’s Rainforest—a hydrotherapy area with a crushed-ice fountain, a walkway where artificial rain falls from the ceiling, a bucket shower, and a pool said to have restorative powers.

Furthering its watery motif, the Banyan Tree offers private pools in each of its villas, 14 of which have two bedrooms and spa treatment rooms. The property’s premier accommodation is a 3,400-square-foot villa with two pools and an unbeatable view of the bay. Banyan Tree Samui, +66.77.915.333, www.banyantree.com
