Devi Ratn

The Jantar Mantar Observatory in Jaipur, India, is an 18th-century sculpture garden of massive astrological instruments that are as impressive for their architecture as they are for their accuracy. The stone designs served as inspiration for the developers of the Pink City’s newest star: Devi Ratn, a boldly contemporary resort on the outskirts of this popular destination in northern India.

Scheduled to open this summer, Devi Ratn is the second hotel from India’s Devi Resorts. The Jaipur property, which joins the 12-year-old Devi Garh Fort Palace in Udaipur, comprises three villas (with private pools) and 60 sprawling suites. Walls painted ruby red and turquoise blue reflect Jaipur’s status as the gem capital of India, and terrazzo floors recall the zigzag designs of local leheriya textiles.

Indian dishes are served under golden arches at Vajra Restaurant, while the resort’s Jal Café serves sherbet and other refreshments by the pool. Soon to open is the 20,000-square-foot Devi Spa by L’Occitane. Until then, guests can find respite at the resort’s Chakra Bar, a circular watering hole modeled after Colosseum-shaped instruments at Jantar Mantar that measure the altitude of stars.
