The Resort at Pelican Hill, which Robb Report listed as being among the top 100 resorts in the world (see the May 2012 issue, page 91), is offering aerial tours of the coastal area surrounding the Southern California property. Located adjacent to 3.5 miles of coastline on a 504-acre estate in Newport Beach, Calif., Pelican Hill is home to 204 bungalows, 128 villas, a pair of 18-hole championship golf courses, a 23,000-square-foot spa, five dining venues, and countless other features and amenities. The new Private Air Tour: Coastal Mountains to the Sea package, available through June, starts at $1,800. It includes a two-night stay at the resort for two guests, daily breakfast, a detailed flight lesson, a private sightseeing flight for as many as four guests, and a coffee table book that showcases the area’s 50,000-acre Irvine Ranch nature preserve, which the state of California and the U.S. Department of the Interior have declared a Natural Landmark.

The flight takes place in a six-seat Cessna 200 series piston aircraft and is conducted by Sunset Flying (www.sunsetflying.com), which operates out of the Long Beach Airport, located about 35 minutes from the resort. (Pelican Hill arranges transport to and from the airport.) The flight, which lasts about 45 minutes and can take place at either sunrise or sunset, flies at relatively slow speeds at an altitude of 2,000 feet, giving guests a rare chance to take in this beautiful stretch of Southern California mountains, canyons, and coastline. Pelican Hill will continue to offer the flight after June, though it will no longer be packaged with a stay at the resort. (949.467.6800, www.pelicanhill.com)
