Hôtel Majestic Barrière: The French Riviera’s New Seaside Gem

  • Stephanie Meza

Following a $98.5 million renovation that began in November 2007, the Hôtel Majestic Barrière in Cannes finally reopened its doors last month. The hotel’s new wing features two penthouses, each with its own private pool and terrace, 12 new suites, 30 junior suites, and the Barrière U Spa. Located on the Mediterranean shoreline on the famous Boulevard de la Croisette, the nucleus of Cannes tourism, the 265-room, 84-suite hotel offers magnificent views of the city and is just steps away from the Palais des Festivals, site of the Cannes Film Festival.

In the spirit of renewal, the Majestic Barrière’s head chef, Bertrand Schmitt, has revised the menu of the legendary Fouquet’s Cannes to include the simple and traditional flavors of French brasserie cuisine. Additionally, the hotel provides a few new gastronomic options including B. Sud, positioned on the terrace with spectacular beach views, and the famous Nice restaurant, La Petite Maison de Nicole, is opening at the hotel later this month. Penthouse ranges from $21,800 in the low season to $52,000, and suites range from $869 to $5,200 for a deluxe suite with sea view. (+33 (0) 4 92 98 77 00, www.lucienbarriere.com)
