Sneak Peek: Ritz-Carlton, Okinawa

Surrounded by the East China Sea, the Ritz-Carlton, Okinawa opened in Japan’s Okinawa prefecture, a long rope of islands that stretches from southern Japan to Taiwan. Situated within the Kise Country Club, the new 97-room hotel features traditional Shurijo architecture and decor (inspired by the nearby Shurijo Castle, a World Heritage site) with red clay tile roofs and a holy water pond. Views from the guest rooms and the adjacent, freestanding spa overlook the Yanbaru Forest on one side and past the sea to the distant Motobu Peninsula on the other. Two in-house restaurants offer Italian and teppanyaki-style Japanese fare. Rates begin at about $600 per night for a deluxe room. (+81.980.43.5555, www.ritzcarlton.com)
