Sneak Peek: Viceroy Riviera Maya

The Tides Riviera Maya has reopened this month as the Viceroy Riviera Maya, now featuring 41 villas on a six-acre property. Of the 11 new villas added, two of them are beachfront, offering unobstructed views of the Yucatán Peninsula’s Caribbean waters; the others feature either ocean views or jungle-views surrounded by ferns, palms, guava trees, and spider monkeys. All of the villas, starting at $605 a night, feature private patios, plunge pools, and outdoor showers. New amenities include a fitness center and a casual seaside restaurant serving Mexican-Mediterranean fare. In addition to the new services, the resort continues to maintain its private pier (used for couples massages, private dinners, and as a pick-up for water-related excursions); the Mayan-inspired spa, which features ancient healing techniques; and a traditional Mayan blessing performed by the on-staff shaman upon guests’ arrival. (+52.984.877.3000, www.viceroyrivieramaya.com)
