Villa Cortez at One&Only Palmilla

The Resort: The Palmilla was one of the first hotels in Los Cabos, and it remains among the few authentically Mexican properties on this now-touristy stretch along the Sea of Cortez. Reopened as a One&Only in 2004, the resort sprawls across 250 oceanfront acres, where palm trees shade hacienda-style structures with white-plaster walls, red-tile roofs, and wrought-iron gates. Each of the 172 rooms offers Sea of Cortez views, as does the Jack Nicklaus–designed golf course. The Palmilla also has a tennis club, a spa, and pools for adults and children, as well as one of Los Cabos’ few safely swimmable beaches.

The Villa: The Palmilla’s Mexican tone reaches a crescendo at Villa Cortez, an 8,500-square-foot hacienda that debuted above a sandy cove in 2008. From a courtyard entry, wooden doors lead separately to an office, a gym and spa area, a bedroom suite, a theater with a 19.5-foot screen, and a main house with three additional bedrooms. The house opens to an outdoor area with enough pool, patio, and palapa space to host a grand fiesta, which the villa’s staff of 12 will accommodate with aplomb. Led by a head butler, the staff is equally adept at serving intimate meals by the outdoor fireplace, giving lessons on how to use the villa’s Sea-Doo scooters in the pool, or training one of the patio’s three brass telescopes on the brilliant night sky above Los Cabos.

The Highlight: Cruising in the resort’s 50-foot Azimut yacht, which is available on an unlimited basis to Villa Cortez guests (at an additional charge).

The Price: From $9,000 per night for as many as 10 guests. +52.624.146.7000, www.oneandonlyresorts.com
