Formula One driver and Audemars Piguet brand ambassador Sébastien Buemi was the inspiration for the Swiss watchmaker’s Royal Oak Offshore Sébastien Buemi limited edition. This most recent interpretation of the brand’s venerable Royal Oak—a style characterized by its octagonal face and eight prominent hexagonal screws that was first introduced in 1972—bears a sportier look with extra features especially appealing to drivers. The Sébastien Buemi ultra-sporty edition (limited to 250 examples) is constructed with a 42 mm, lightweight titanium case and scratch-resistant ceramic bezel accented with a vibrant yellow minute circle (the prominent color on Buemi’s racing helmet). The back of the case sports a transparent sapphire viewing window that allows observation of the movement’s Côtes de Genève–adorned bridges and 22-karat gold oscillating weight, which winds the watch as it moves back and forth during daily wear. A tachymeter on the bezel is a further nod to Formula One racing and can be used to calculate the speed of an object over a given distance—for instance, the velocity of a Formula One racecar as it rounds the last lap at the Circuit de Monaco.
