Best of the Best 2012: Men's Watches: Visual Artistry: Vacheron Constantin Métiers d’Art Chagall & l’Opéra de Paris

The involvement in any project of Anita Porchet, the current sovereign of Swiss-watch enamelists, virtually guarantees a timepiece of superlative aesthetic quality; the underlying concept of the latest Métiers d’Art series of watches from Vacheron Constantin ($175,900) raises the artistic stakes even higher. Porchet teamed up with the brand on 15 unique timepieces to commemorate Marc Chagall’s famous ceiling in the Palais Garnier opera house in Paris. The watch now residing in the company’s museum depicts the entire ceiling—on which Chagall celebrates famous composers and their works—while the remaining 14 highlight specific details. With each of these one-of-a-kind watches, Porchet fully expresses her talents as she captures the exuberant spirit of Chagall’s creation. (877.862.7555, www.vacheron-constantin.com)
