Chopard’s Speed Racer

  • Laurie Kahle

Chopard’s fifth limited-edition Jacky Ickx watch was developed with input from its namesake racing legend to evoke the spirit of classic car racing. The Jacky Ickx Edition V ($11,140) pays tribute to Ickx’s six wins at the Le Mans 24 Hours with the numbers 6/24 engraved on the case back. Limited to 2,000 pieces, the watch delivers functions essential to competitive drivers, including a flyback chronograph, a 24-hour counter, and a tachometric scale that allows you to calculate speed over a 1,000-meter distance. In addition to a 60-minute counter at 9 o’clock, the chronograph has a 24-hour counter at 6 o’clock to keep track of remaining race duration and a flyback function that allows the wearer to instantly start a new timing operation without resetting to zero. The dial layout is balanced with a large date display at 12 o’clock and small seconds at 3 o’clock. Like the cars that endure Le Mans’ grueling 24-hour trial, the rugged steel watch is built to withstand shocks and extreme environmental conditions with screw-lock pushers and crown for enhanced water resistance.
