A Colossal Champagne

  • Christina Garofalo

You might need a crane to uncork the new limited-edition, 15-liter Rosé Nebuchadnezzar Champagne released this month by Armand de Brignac. At 77 pounds and nearly 3 feet tall, the Rosé Nebuchadnezzar ($35,500) is equivalent to 20 standard-size bottles of Champagne, making it the largest bottle of rosé Champagne ever produced.

A staff of just eight people creates every bottle of Armand de Brignac completely by hand—from the Champagne to the bottle—at a 250-year-old château in Chigny-les-Roses, France. This vintage is composed of 50 percent Pinot Noir, 40 percent Pinot Meunier, and 10 percent Chardonnay, selected exclusively from Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards in the La Marne region’s Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, and Côte des Blancs terroirs. Each Armand de BrignacRosé Nebuchadnezzar cuvée also includes a 100 percent still wine dosage aged 12 months in oak casks from Champagne and Burgundy, all of which contributes to a full-bodied flavor with notes of red fruits and aromas of strawberries and black currant.
