Best of the Best 2012: Domestic White Wines: Darioush 2010 Signature Viognier

Nothing about darioush, one of Napa Valley’s most impressive wineries, is restrained. The building is an epic structure of glass and Persian travertine that rises up from among rows of impeccably tended vines along Napa Valley’s Silverado Trail. It reflects not only the heritage of its owner, vintner Darioush Khaledi, who immigrated to the United States from Iran in the 1970s, but also the style of winemaker Steve Devitt’s wines, which are bold yet classically inspired. The Darioush 2010 Signature Viognier (www.darioush.com, $39) is suffused with essences of crisp green apple, creamy pear, orange blossom, nectarine, and honeysuckle.
