Best of the Best 2012: Domestic White Wines: Merry Edwards 2010 Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley

Since 1997, when Merry Edwards cofounded Merry Edwards Wines, she has focused her talents on perfecting that most persnickety of varietals, Pinot Noir. She has produced superb Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley blends, as well as prodigious single-vineyard expressions from Olivet Lane, Meredith, Georganne, Klopp Ranch, and Coopersmith Vineyard; her state-of-the-art winery at Coopersmith was completed in 2008. Although she also makes a mouthwatering Chardonnay from Olivet Lane, her star white wine remains her Sauvignon Blanc. The Merry Edwards 2010 Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley (www.merryedwards.com, $30) includes 33 percent Sauvignon Musque, a clonal variation that contributes to the seamless poise of this blend, which contrasts ripe peach, melon, and citrus flavors with a steellike minerality.
