Maduro Power

The Siglo Limited Reserve Maduro was one of the last cigars to be blended by the late Frank Llaneza, and is a fitting tribute to the man who pioneered planting Cuban seed tobaccos in Honduras. This is also one of the strongest cigars Llaneza ever blended, a real riptide of power, somewhat like floor-boarding a Ferrari. The flavor is akin to the deep red earth of Australia’s Coonawarra vineyards, with a tempering touch of citrus. The broadleaf binder combined with a Dominican and Nicaraguan filler provide the heft, but it is the thick San Andrés Morrón wrapper that gives this cigar complexity by virtue of its aged maduro texture and taste.

Make no mistake: This is a big, bold, rough-hewn smoke reserved for those who like their steaks charred and their whiskeys straight. Five sizes are available, priced from $5.25 to $7.50, from the 44 x 5½ Corona up to a 54 x 7 Churchill. The 52 x 6? Belicoso is our favorite. (www.altadisusa.com)
