Xaranna Tented Camp, Okavango Delta, Botswana

  • Laurie Kahle

Amid the unspoiled wilderness of Botswana’s vast Okavango Delta, on a roughly 62,000-acre parcel of land, in September 2008 &Beyond (formerly CC Africa) opened Xaranna Tented Camp, a safari camp that immerses you in nature without asking you to sacrifice any comforts, including private plunge pools. Xaranna’s nine spacious tented suites overlook a permanent channel of the delta that resonates with the sounds of exotic birds. Xaranna offers morning and afternoon game excursions, on land or in the water. The safaris can involve poling through the reeds in a mekoro (a dugout canoe) to discover a pool of splashing, snorting hippos, or tracking lions through the bush at sundown in an open-air SUV. At the end of the day, you can enjoy a massage in your suite before recounting your adventures over a candlelit dinner served under the canvas of the outdoor dining veranda.
