Rare Book Paradise

Bibliophiles take note: The New York Antiquarian Book Fair will take place April 3-5 at the Park Avenue Armory. In its 49th year, the highly anticipated show presents more than 200 dealers of rare books, manuscripts, autographs, maps, and bound volumes on subjects ranging from history and law to music, dance, art, and philosophy. Highlights this year include George Gershwin’s Song-book, from Frogtown Books, with a musical quotation of “Rhapsody in Blue” inscribed in Gershwin’s hand, and a first edition of Aleister Crowley’s Moonchild, from Lucius Books, annotated by the author with parts that were later edited out, a character key, and notes from Crowley relating the story to real-life events. Exhibitors will offer free collecting advice and appraisals from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday to ticketed visitors who want to share their own rare books. (www.sanfordsmith.com)
