    He’s Off the Bus

For more than a decade, the Arizona construction magnate Ron Pratte has been the auto world’s most visible collector. Seated in the front row at nearly all of Barrett-Jackson’s televised auctions, like the star of a reality TV show, he bids small fortunes to acquire stunners such as a 1950 General Motors Futurliner tour bus for $4.4 million or a 1954 Pontiac Bonneville Special Motorama concept car for $3.08 million. Now, after amassing one of the premier car collections in the country, Pratte is embarking on a dramatic final episode: He is selling it all—more than 100 historic vehicles and 1,400 pieces of memorabilia—and without a word as to why. Naturally, Barrett-Jackson will be handling the sale.
