In the automotive world, owning a Rolls-Royce Phantom is one of the ultimate expressions of wealth. This larger-than-life behemoth stands out among the throngs of vehicles crowding roadways the world over, turning heads everywhere it travels. For the 2015 model year, however, the British automaker is trying something a little different, with the Rolls-Royce Metropolitan Collection, a new addition to its Phantom line that will serve as a sort of city camouflage. Of course, attempting to offer an understated design concept for the Rolls-Royce Phantom is like putting a hat and sunglasses on an A-list celebrity to hide their face; people will still recognize its presence and it will still draw attention—perhaps even more than before.

The styling of the Phantom Metropolitan Collection is inspired by the dark and stoic buildings hiding in plain sight in every major city. The British automaker applies a dark tungsten finish to coat the car with a paint designed to echo the tones of a city at night. A two-tone cityscape is even hand-painted on each model to represent the urban habitat of this very special model. In the cabin, an even more intricate cityscape can be found on the dash; it takes one artisan an entire month to assemble the 500 pieces of wood veneer that depict a city from an elevated perspective. Additionally, for the first time ever, Rolls-Royce has included a bezel clock in the cockpit, complete with 24 time zones corresponding to major cities around the world.
