The 2016 BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe Makes Its North American Debut
The refresh of the BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe, which first debuted in Geneva, made its North American arrival at the New York International Auto Show in April. Styling elements distinguishing this car from the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe include trademark Alpina elliptical twin tailpipes, blue brake calipers and door-sill trims with Alpina lettering on the front, and wood trim in Myrtle or Piano lacquer. The coupe also features a subtly changed BMW kidney grill and a more aggressive front spoiler.
The car’s bi-turbo, 600 hp, V-8 engine delivers 60 hp more than the previous model thanks to extensive reworking of the air-intake ducting and air-filter housing, as well as enhancements to the fuel supply system. The pairing of BMW’s xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system with Alpina’s performance calibration makes it the fastest-accelerating BMW Alpina model yet, with a preliminary zero-to-60-mph time of 3.6 seconds. Dynamic Damper Control and Adaptive Drive systems allow the driver to switch between Comfort, Comfort+, Sport, and Sport+ settings via a Driving Dynamics Control rocker switch.
The 2016 BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe is now available to order on a limited-capacity basis, with pricing information being announced closer to the on-sale date. Deliveries in the United States are scheduled to begin at BMW centers in June, but customers should note that Alpina’s hand-finishing sequence will increase the production lead time by approximately two weeks.
