The LiveJet: From Airliner to Executive Jet

The Dornier 328 seats 32 in its original airliner configuration, but now LiveJet, based in Indiana, has converted one to a 12-seat executive jet. For the bargain sale price of $8 million, the penny-pinching jet-setter will get a roomy cabin and zippy performance. Reducing the weight increased the range to about 1,700 miles, and with its powerful engines the LiveJet can handle high-altitude airports and short runways. Operating expenses per hour are about half the cost for a new jet with a similar-size cabin, the company says. (219.477.3900, www.mylivejet.com)
