Best of the Best 2016: Wheels | Motorcycles: Triumph Tiger Explorer
For the 2016 model year, Triumph Motorcycles girded the Tiger Explorer series of adventure bikes with the latest electronic controls and rider conveniences. The Tiger Explorer’s design emphasizes aerodynamic efficiency as well as ruggedness, yet it is also rider friendly. The broad saddle provides a riding position that enables agile maneuvering, and it’s comfortable for long-distance travel. The power output from the smooth-running 3-cylinder engine is flexible and accommodating. The bike is available in two variants: The XC models are optimized for rugged terrain, and the XR models are better suited to paved roads.
- Triumph offers low-seat variants of the XC and XR models.
- All of the Tiger Explorer models have the same engine: a liquid-cooled 1,215 cc, 3-cylinder power plant that produces 137 hp and 90 ft lbs of torque.
- The Semi-Active Suspension system adjusts the settings according to the riding surface.
- Five selectable riding modes govern braking, traction control, suspension, and throttle input.
