MOTO GP is formula one for motorcycles, a race series where the bikes regularly exceed 200 mph. When the series comes to Monterey, Calif.’s Laguna Seca in July, it will be joined by the inaugural Robb Report MotorCycling Concours d’Elegance (motorcyclingmag.com), an exhibit of vintage racing bikes. Dubbed Kings of Speed, the display will include restored bikes, many rare or one of a kind, as well as original-condition models (including the Vincent Black Lightning “bathing suit” bike that broke the speed record at Bonneville in 1948). More than 100 machines will vie for trophies in 12 categories. The event takes place July 20 through 22 at the Monterey Conference Center and the adjoining Portola Plaza Hotel. . . .
Just a few miles away, a decidedly less intense experience awaits at the Pebble Beach Golf Links, near the 18th green. Here, at a table and chairs arranged by Club XIX (pebblebeach.com), you can sip an 1850 Hardy’s Perfection Cognac ($525 per drink) or a 1937 Macallan ($1,200). Cigar lovers can choose from a menu that includes a 1955 preembargo Cuban Montecristo #2 ($275). The program takes place after dinner, when the players have cleared the course, so there is no need to worry about errant golf balls.
