The 2010 Range Rover Sport is based on the LR4 platform and this supercharged model was designed for sport-and-touring drivers rather than country squires and rain-forest explorers. This year, the Range Rover Sport finally has the acceleration, braking, and handling prowess of the sportiest SUVs from BMW or Porsche. But unlike those extreme machines, this compact Range Rover skillfully balances ride and handling in a classy sport utility that’s easy to drive every day. The cabin is more luxurious than a Land Rover LR4’s, but it falls far short of the Range Rover Autobiography. Like all Land Rovers, the Range Rover Sport is remarkably competent off the pavement, but anyone who is serious about off-road worthiness should stick with the standard version.
