Classic Motor Cars, a restoration shop based in Shropshire, England, that specializes in Jaguar cars, has announced that it will produce a limited number of the Mark 2 by Callum, a reinterpretation of the Jaguar Mark 2 created by Jaguar’s director of design, Ian Callum. Originally envisioned as a one-off for his personal use, Callum’s Mark 2 received such high praises upon its public debut in late August that the company decided to build additional examples.

Developed and constructed over a period of 18 months, the Mark 2 by Callum features performance upgrades as well as design tweaks to suit Callum’s tastes. The car is powered by a modified 4.3-liter Jaguar XK inline-6 engine that produces 260 hp and up to 280 ft lbs of torque—a healthy improvement over the original. A new suspension with roll bars, upgraded coil springs, and adjustable dampers further improves the car’s performance.

In reimagining the appearance of the vehicle, Callum favored a light hand, retaining the essence of the original while adding some modern touches. The car’s chassis has been lowered by just over an inch and four louvers have been added to each side of the vehicle, giving the car an even sportier feel. The Mark 2’s iconic fluted chrome grille, however, remains unchanged. Inside the cockpit, the car features new quilted-leather seats, an Alcantara headliner, a redesigned instrument panel, and Callum’s signature etched into the glove box. A retractable in-car entertainment system offers navigation and multimedia accessibility when desired without radically changing the appearance of the interior.

The Jaguar Mark 2 by Callum will be priced at approximately $510,000 (plus VAT), depending on the level of customization. (www.classic-motor-cars.co.uk)
