The 1965 Ford GT40 Roadster Prototype shown here will be among the most coveted collector cars at the RM Auctions Monterey Sale (www.rmauctions.com) August 15 and 16, during the annual Monterey Car Week (www.montereycarweek.com), which concludes with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance (www.pebblebeachconcours.net). One of only 12 Ford GT40 prototypes built—and the first of only four Roadsters—chassis GT/108 served as a development vehicle for Shelby American, which began managing the Ford racing program in 1965. A year later, the Ford team’s GT40s took the top three spots at Le Mans.
