FrontRunners July 2014: Buell's Bolide

  • EBR 1190RX

When Harley-Davidson shut down the Buell Motorcycle Company five years ago, that brand’s namesake founder established Erik Buell Racing, in Troy, Wis., and continued to produce high-performance V-twin sportbikes. The company’s latest release, the EBR 1190RX (www.erikbuellracing.com), is its second street-legal offering, but like the first, the limited-production 1190RS, it is race ready. Indeed, the 1190RX, which is priced at just under $19,000, could make fans of Italian superbikes look twice. It delivers 185 hp and huge torque—102 ft lbs—from a 1,190 cc V-twin wrapped tightly in an aerodynamic package that, including the engine, weighs just 419 pounds.
