2009 Luxury Preview: Roman Explorer

<< Back to Robb Report, Special Issue: The 2009 Luxury Preview

Perini Navi—known for its graceful but highly technical sailing megayachts, like the 289-foot Maltese Falcon—is launching a stunning new line of motor yachts being designed by French naval architect Philippe Briand. Named for a first-century Roman architect, Perini Navi’s Vitruvius project is now working on a 164-foot expedition yacht dubbed Explorer, which will launch in the spring of 2010. This vessel borrows heavily from many of Briand’s famous blue-water sailing yachts. The Vitruvius Explorer 50m will have a range exceeding 4,500 miles at a 13.8 mph cruising speed, and a draft of less than 8 feet. The sleek profile and minimal hull drag will reduce energy consumption for long-range voyages. The interior design will include a full-beam owners’ cabin and staterooms for eight guests and 10 crew. The battery of oversize windows will provide panoramic views from the main salon and sky lounge.
