Best of the Best 2011: Custom Megayachts: Cakewalk

<< Back to Robb Report, 23rd Annual Best of the Best

At 2,998 gross tons, Derecktor Shipyards’ Cakewalk (914.698.5020, www.derecktor.com) is the largest yacht by volume ever built in the United States. The Bridgeport, Conn., yard required four years to complete this six-deck behemoth, which launched last August and immediately catapulted Derecktor into the international yacht-building limelight. Styled by Tim Heywood Designs to a plan from Azure Naval Architects, Cakewalk makes a strong first impression, thanks to its towering presence, sapphire-blue paint job, and curvy horizontal lines. Interior highlights include a main salon with a baby grand piano, a library with a marble fireplace, a day spa/exercise room, a home theater, and a spiral staircase and an elevator that access four of the six decks. Cakewalk accommodates 12 guests in six staterooms on the main deck and a seven-room master suite that sprawls across its own deck. The yacht’s top deck houses a hot tub, and a colossal tender garage holds myriad water toys.
