The New Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Recalls One of the Brand’s Most Memorable Models

  • Lou Ann Hammond

The forms and proportions of the new Alfa Romeo 4C Spider emerged from the design of the company’s 1967 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale. Of the 18 original 33 Stradales produced, only several remain. Considered by collectors and enthusiasts to be one of the most beautiful cars of all time, a 33 Stradale is estimated to be worth over $10 million today.

The 4C Spider’s all-aluminum engine, paired with a twin-clutch transmission, can produce 237 hp and 258 ft lbs of torque. The 4C Spider is able to reach a top speed of 160 mph and, thanks to launch control, can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds.

Handcrafted in Modena, Italy, the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider is produced in the same factory that makes the Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio. Production of the Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe and 4C Spider will total approximately 3,000 units annually, with one-third of those coming to North America. The 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider will be on sale at North American car dealerships this summer, though pricing has not yet been announced. (alfaromeousa.com)
