Hot on the heels of the debut of the Esperante Spyder last year, the boutique U.S. automaker Panoz has revealed its wider, more powerful sibling, the Esperante Spyder GT. Weighing in at just 3,300 pounds, thanks largely to its lightweight aluminum body, tubular-steel subframes, and carbon-fiber superstructure, the GT delivers an excellent power-to-weight ratio. The car comes equipped with a standard 560 hp V-8, though it can be upgraded with an optional supercharged engine that produces in excess of 750 hp. Buyers have a choice between a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission control by paddle shifters. The GT’s impressive performance is further enhanced by its curvaceous, aerodynamic body and carbon-fiber front splitter, which increases downforce and improves handling. Inside the cockpit are an array of creature comforts, including Alcantara accents, a custom steering wheel made of carbon fiber and leather, carbon-fiber doorsills, and a multimedia and navigation system. In a nod to the company’s 25th anniversary, Panoz will build a total of no more than 25 examples of the Esperante Spyder and Esperante Spyder GT combined. The GT is priced from $204,000. (panoz.com)
