Private Preview 2005: Power Upgrade

<< Back to Robb Report, October 2004

AMG, the in-house tuner for Mercedes-Benz, got its hands on the SL500 and created the twin-turbocharged Mercedes-Benz SL65, which offers twice the power of the base-model SL. The vehicle’s engine will develop 604 hp and 738 ft lbs of torque, giving the car a 4.2-second time in the zero-to-60 dash. The SL65, which will be available for delivery later this year, is powered by only 13 fewer horses than Mercedes’ $450,000 SLR McLaren supercar, making the roadster a relative bargain at $179,000.
