Russo and Steele Car Auction Returns to Newport Beach

From June 19 through 21, Russo and Steele Collector Automobile Auctions will come back to Newport Beach, Calif., for a second year in a row, with a car show and auction featuring more than 400 classic cars all for sale. An evening preview and gala on June 18 will benefit the Children’s Hospital of Orange County. The animated sale will be held at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort, a venue well suited to the “auction in the round” format for which Andrew Alcazar—a co-owner of Russo and Steele—is well known.

If stuffy auctioneers droning in muffled British undertones aren’t your cup of tea, a Russo and Steele event is sure to please. While not exactly a bar fight, Alcazar’s casual and action-packed auction style promises a visceral experience for real car enthusiasts, whether joining the free-for-all as bidders or enjoying the show as spectators. Working a circle in the center of the auction floor with an electric energy, Alcazar and his team are clearly dedicated gearheads, not just a licensed auction house selling cars one day and silver from Aunt Mildred’s estate the next.

Last year’s sale featured a Bugatti Veyron and an Aston Martin DB6; this year’s highlights run the gamut from European sports cars to U.S. muscle, hot rods, and customs. Russo and Steele holds auctions year-round in Monterey, Calif.; Scottsdale, Ariz.; and Las Vegas. (602.252.2697, www.russoandsteele.com)
