V-10 Power: Audi R8 5.2 FSI

With Detroit’s 2009 North American International Auto Show as its stage, Audi unveiled the R8 5.2 FSI—a V-10-powered descendant of the R8 sports car, which up until now was only available with a V-8 engine. Visually, the R8 5.2 FSI looks a lot like the regular R8 but distinguishes itself with larger air intakes and a modified rear fascia. Output increases from 420 to 525 horsepower, thanks to the 5.2-liter direct-inject engine’s extra two cylinders. Torque is also up by 74 ft-lbs, for a total of 391 ft-lbs. That kind of twisting force promises to catapult the car from 0 to 60 mph in just under four seconds. Blessed with all that extra power, and given a long enough stretch of empty road, the R8 5.2 FSI should max out its speed in the supercar-like stratosphere of nearly 196 miles per hour.
